Mind Over Matter
The Most Common Way People Give Up Their Power Is By Thinking They Don't Have Any
- Alice Walker

This quote hits close to home, because this is exactly how I felt for years. I really came to realize the devastating effects the fashion industry posed on us and our environment in 2013 at the young age of 22. It’s that very same year that the preliminary idea behind bra love co., a sustainable, modular, biodegradable bra line was born. Although the concept of ethical and sustainable fashion was fairly new at the time it aligned with my beliefs, having grown up in a very health conscious household. Just the thought of how it could impact not only my life, but also many others made me extremely excited. Still learning I began to pursue this venture. For the first time in my life I felt a sense of purpose. Growing up loving to design, but disapproving of the fashion industry for what it was, I finally felt inspired. However, just as quickly as the rush of excitement flooded in, the fear of not being able to stand up to such an industry took over and put me at a standstill for a long time. Years later the industry is still a corrupt mess, the only difference is that times are changing, and many people, including myself, have grown to see things in a new light. Companies are having to relearn how to find the right balance between giving consumers what they want while making sure their products are ethical and sustainable, without sacrificing quality. There has been a steady increase towards sustainable technology and this technology continues to grow, literally, through companies like Agroloop and Living Ink. People are getting smarter and coming together to fight these global issues, and it’s encouraging to see that no matter who you are, or what stage of the game you are in, it is a huge learning curve for everyone. At the end of the day I have realized, it’s better to stand up and fight because we, as consumers, have the power. Every person really does matter because we all make lots of important choices every day that impact our future, and if we all took the time to educate ourselves on these global issues we could save the world.
